Oak Bar – Terminal 2, Dublin Airport
As part of the fit-out for the new terminal at the Oak Bar – Terminal 2, Dublin Airport the Dublin Airport Authority wanted striking retail units and hospitality spaces. Our Client, a bar operator, commissioned dePaor Architects along with CORA to design a large striking timber structure to space 12m in each direction over the bar. The structure which comprises of laminated birch plywood clad in oak is supported on only three legs with the timber beams arranged in a grid formation to provide support to each other. CORA carried out a full design of the timber structure including a full finite element analysis to predict the behaviour of the structure prior to fabrication.
The project has been shortlisted in the 2011 Institute of Structural Engineers Awards in the ‘Small Practice’ Category.
